Young and Free
The hippie movement was characterized by young people leading a defining movement. The traditional modes of society were outright rejected. The role of women in this movement cannot be ignored as they were the torchbearers of bringing forth new ideas. Though they faced a lot of criticism from society, they remained undeterred in their goals. In this picture, a woman can be seen dancing freely without taking into consideration what people may think of her. Hippies felt alienated from society. They felt that it promoted repression and capitalism. One of the most prominent features that defined them was their distinctive lifestyle.
