The hippies redefined how fashion was perceived in society. Before the 1960s, the youth was not so bold in their choice of clothing, but things began to change as the hippie culture rose in popularity. Here, in this picture, two hippies can be seen walking the streets of London. Since hippies outrightly rejected the mainstream, they conveyed their rebellion even through their clothes. Men and women both could be seen draped in loose dresses, floral shirts, scarves, and headbands. They rejoiced in this newfound freedom of wearing anything that they liked without conforming to the rules of society. This was one of the things that liberated them.
