Joplin In San Francisco

Janis Joplin was a musical icon who moved to San Francisco when she was pretty young. She shot to fame after performing some of the popular hits with Big Brother and Holding Company at a musical fest. Most women in San Francisco during the sixties were struggling to fit in the society. However, she was of a strong character and decided to pursue her individuality. During that period of time, San Francisco was brimming with hippies who would walk its streets freely. Joplin was deeply affected by this movement and was closely associated with the countercultural movement, which had a great impact on her life.
